Sungrow has successfully connected and completed acceptance testing for the 108.4 MW/215.6 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Cambodia's EDC Kandal Stueng station (GS79) in Takmao, Kandal Province. The project integrates large-scale grid-forming technology to stabilize Cambodia's central power network and cross-border transmission lines from Vietnam. During testing, the facility achieved zero-voltage black-start capabilities, energizing five substations and roughly 240 km of transmission lines while synchronizing with local hydro and coal power assets.

Operating independently in islanded mode for 3.5 hours, the system limited voltage deviation to under 2% and transient frequency fluctuations to within 0.15 Hz during network transitions. The installation proves that grid-forming storage serves as an active stability asset capable of maintaining frequency, supporting recovery, and safeguarding reliable power distribution during major grid disruptions. Constructed under challenging weather conditions reaching 40°C, the facility finalized hot commissioning and testing within 20 days.

Beyond direct automotive output, the development is positioned to create skilled employment, accelerate technology transfer, and integrate the domestic economy deeper into global supply chains. The project continues the country's strong investment momentum, following 630 registered projects worth KHR 40.68 Trn (USD 10 Bn) in 2025. Capital inflows have remained resilient into 2026, with 276 additional projects valued at KHR 19.12 Trn (USD 4.7 Bn) approved during the first half of the year alone.

CAMBODIA’S USD 300 MN SUPERPORT PROJECT IN KAMPONG SPEU

Cambodia has officially broken ground on the Cambodia SuperPort, an integrated special economic zone and logistics hub situated across 132 hectares in Kampong Speu province. Developed with an estimated investment of KHR 1.22 Trn (USD 300 Mn), the facility is designed to link domestic manufacturing centers directly with regional and global markets. The project aims to streamline freight movement, reinforce local supply chains, and build a cohesive multimodal network suited to international commercial demand.

The initiative demonstrates the country's strengthening investment climate, bolstered by stable governance, open market policies, and ongoing economic development. By expanding infrastructure capacity, the port project is projected to attract both foreign and domestic capital, create jobs, and stimulate long-term economic growth. Stakeholders anticipate the hub will serve as an effective public-private partnership model that enhances national supply efficiency and raises local living standards.
