ADANI'S DHAMRA PORT BECOMES INDIA'S FIRST PRIVATE PORT ON RENEWABLE POWER
Dhamra Port in Odisha, operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), has shifted its entire electricity consumption to renewable power, becoming India's first large-scale private multi-cargo port to operate fully on renewable electricity. It now handles more than 48 Mn tonnes of cargo annually and meets monthly electricity demand of more than 9,000,000 units from renewable sources. At current operating levels, renewable consumption exceeds 108 GWh annually.
The transition, which took effect in August 2026, forms part of APSEZ's long-term net-zero strategy. The move is expected to reduce emissions associated with purchased electricity and improve the environmental performance of the energy-intensive port's operations.
The renewable power supply combines captive generation, third-party access arrangements and green-power procurement under Odisha's regulatory framework. About 25 to 30% of Dhamra's renewable electricity comes from APSEZ's captive hybrid power plant at Khavda in Gujarat, while a further 10 to 15% is sourced through third-party access. The remaining requirement is met through a Green Consumer arrangement with Odisha's distribution utility. Renewable electricity now supports the port's round-the-clock activities, including cargo handling, storage, rail- linked operations and other critical infrastructure.
MARUTI SUZUKI COMMISSIONS FIRST GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT AT MANESAR PLANT
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commissioned a pilot 300 kW Green Hydrogen plant at its Manesar facility in Haryana to produce clean fuel for manufacturing operations. The Green Hydrogen produced is blended with natural gasto utilized as process fuel in the company's manufacturing operations.
The Green Hydrogen plant maximises solar energy utilisation at the company's Manesar facility. By capturing surplus solar power generated during holidays, the plant produces and stores hydrogen for later use in manufacturing operations. Using insights from this pilot, the Company plans to scale green hydrogen technology across its production facilities in Haryana and Gujarat.
Maruti Suzuki continues to boost resource efficiency and optimize energy use, guided by its parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation's core philosophy of Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi-which stands for smaller, fewer, lighter, shorter, and more beautiful.
SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, NETWORKS FOR HUMANITY SIGN DIGITAL GRID MOU
Schneider Electric and Networks for Humanity (NFH) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore applications for India's emerging Digital Energy Grid (DEG). The partnership will combine Schneider Electric's energy technology capabilities with NFH's experience in open and interoperable digital networks.
The organisations plan to identify, design and evaluate pilot applications that can connect energy assets, end users and other participants across the energy ecosystem. The DEG is intended to create an open digital layer linking consumers, assets and market players through interoperable systems.
The framework is supported by the India Energy Stack, which aims to provide common digital infrastructure for energy services. The initiative comes as India's power system faces changing demand patterns, with peak electricity demand projected to approach 300 GW in 2027. Data centres, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and the integration of renewable and distributed energy resources are expected to contribute to the increase.
Schneider Electric will provide expertise in digital grids, energy management, automation, distributed energy resources, building systems, microgrids, electric vehicle charging and industrial load management. These capabilities are intended to connect infrastructure, provide energy intelligence and support demand-side operational programmes within an open ecosystem.
Initial pilots will focus on utility energy intelligence, demand flexibility in industrial and building settings, home energy management, flexibility for fast electric vehicle charging, and carbon footprint accounting and trading. The projects will demonstrate ecosystem functions including discoverability, trust and transactability between value creators and value takers.
